Carolyn Paine

Carolyn Paine is a native of Boston, MA where she began her training at Boston Ballet and danced featured children's roles in such productions as "The Nutcracker" and "Cinderella" set by Ben Stevenson of Houston Ballet. She later went on to study with Jose Mateo at Ballet Theatre of Boston where she performed roles created for her by Mr. Mateo with his youth company YouthWorks and alongside the professional company. Carolyn also studied in summer sessions at The Rock School of Pennsylvania Ballet and completed the ceritificate program and performed at the Academie de Danse Classique de Princesse Grace in Monaco working with Nureyev's mentor and dance legend Marika Bresobrasova. She also completed the professional certificate program at the Ecole Superiuer de Danse de Cannes in France. She perfromed professionally for six seasons as an audience favorite principal dancer with West Hartford's Ballet Theatre Company under the direction of Richard Steinert. Some of her favorite roles included Dew Drop Fairy in "The Nutcracker" and the principal role in Margueritte D'Anguera's "Melodies," a role which she was documented in by award-winning photograher Jay Stock as part of his Dance History series in 2002. Carolyn performed in New York City in choreography festivals working with Dwight Rhoden of Complexions Contemporary Ballet, Jacqueline Buglisi of Buglisi-Forman, and Alan Sener of Limon Company. She has performed as a soloist with Ballet Rox in Boston, MA under the direction of Tony Williams and has performed the principal classical Sugar Plum as well as jazz pas de deuxs in his popular "Urban Nutcracker." Carolyn also worked with Yvonne Rainer in her "RoS Indexical" presented as part of the International Dance Fesitval at Yale Rep in New Haven. Additionally, she has performed as a guest artist with other companies for the Nutcracker season, including Shore Dance Company in RI. In 2007 she was honored as a dancer and teacher by the National Association for Dance and Affliated Arts. Carolyn is the co-founder, co-director, and choreographer for the innovative contemporary ballet ensemble CONNetic Dance which has performed new choreography throughout New England and in NYC. In addition to her dancing career, Carolyn is an accomplished actress on stage, television, and commercials and has performed Off Broadway in NYC. Carolyn loves to share her passion for dance and theatre through education and has been a guest teacher in demand throughout New England. She has been on the faculty at The Tony Williams Dance Center in Boston, MA, The University of Hartford Hartt School Community Division, The Dance Center in West Hartford, and Ballet Theatre Academy in West Hartford.
